Half Past Two

The wellbeing industry does not work. You still have to go in on Monday.

I have been trying to work out when exactly people stop being able to think, and for most of them the answer is somewhere around half past two.

That is not a joke and it’s not really a metaphor. You can watch it happen. The morning version of somebody makes decisions they can still defend a week later. The afternoon version writes the email. Same person, same job, same set of problems, and a four hour gap in which something went.

Nobody in the wellbeing industry seems remotely interested in this. What they are interested in is Thursday’s resilience workshop. It runs for an hour, attendance is expected, the work it displaces is still due on Friday, and the invitation arrives with a photograph of a woman doing yoga on a jetty.
